Page 3
We do want the west and east sides to connect to each other. On the west side we
asked for design development and final design and on the east side we asked for
conceptual plans.
Budzynski inquired what kind of ideas were being proposed with their conceptual
plans.
Breuer stated we made sure that each agency was aware of our Strategic Plan so
they could go on our website and review that. Trail connectivity was a component
and so was the art piece. They are suggesting that steering committees need to be
formed to go before the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission and
before Council. We want to find out what people want and what that area can
accept, based on current needs, the housing situation and what the developers
want. The community will help decide what goes in there.
VIII. Announcements
A. Chair Updates
Don Heinrich stated the new Hansen Park pavilion is about 99% complete.
Engineering did a good job and the Parks and Recreation Department was on top
of everything. It is very sturdy and people love it. The location is perfect. The
Parks and Recreation Fall Newsletter is out. Char Samuelson encouraged people
. to register for activities.
Mary Burg commented that she received phone calls regarding the new
pavilion at Hansen. They were to give a thank you for replacing it and for putting
it in the same spot. They like the fact that it is close to the playground area.
B. Department Happenings/Department Updates
Sandy Breuer went through the Department Happenings presentation.
At the golf course 1,200 more rounds were played this year. Something new this
year with the brochure is that as soon as the brochure hits the community, you can
do online registration.
Chair Frischman had asked for a follow-up on the fire vandalism at Hansen.
Breuer informed the group that Director Jacobson stated that no results came from
the follow-up leads. There is nothing more to report unless more leads come from
the public. If you have any more information, please contact Public Safety.
Sandy gave a Trails meeting update from June. The next meeting is scheduled for
August 28th. At the June meeting we had five members from the community, two
commission members and two staff members present. Priorities were set as to
what they would like to do over the next several months. A few items on the list
were: create a comprehensive signage plan for trails and parks, increase
promotion of parks and trails, trail to connect the park and ride in Mounds View,
connect the trail north and south along the rail line, connect a barrier between
traffic and sidewalks on Old Highway 8 over I-694, create connection between
New Brighton and the Northstar Commuter line; possibly Mississippi, construct
sidewalk on north side of 10th Street to the Family Service Center, widen sidewalk
on Silver Lake Rd south of I-694.
