MINUTES
New Brighton Economic Development Commission
Regular Meeting -- August 7, 2007
7:00 a.m.
Members/Liaisons Present: Bob Benke, Gene Delaune, Dennis Flahave, Linda Harmon, Steve Larson,
Cynthia Lesher, Mark Nelson, and Bruce Nustad.
Members/Liaisons Absent: Annie Hoffman, John Kaufhold, Jim Sculthorp, and Gary Stang.
Staff Present: Dean Lotter, Grant Fernelius, David Black, and Jennifer Lavandowska.
Call to Order
Mark Nelson called the meeting to order at 7:10 a.m.
Approval of Minutes
The June 12, 2007 was approved with the following change to the last sentence of the section entitled
"Brighton Village": "Larson added that he understands that Champps will not start on the patio until the
issue is resolved." The minutes of the July 10, 2007 meeting were approved as submitted.
*Miscellaneous Developments
U S Postal Service Relocation Agreement
Fernelius reported that the Council approved the agreement for moving the post office, however a day
after the approval the LISPS asked for a minor change. They objected to a prevision stating that if they do
not move into a location within the City they would be required to purchase the current post office
building. Staff told USPS that the Council will not allow any more changes to the agreement, and is
hoping to hear back from them within the next few days. Nelson asked whether they have signed the
relocation agreement. Fernelius replied that they have not yet signed it. Lotter noted that USPS was the
party that started the process of moving and approached the City.
Railroad Wye and Team Track
Fernelius reported that John Gohmann of Minnesota Commercial is close to signing a letter of
understanding with the City. There are several meetings planned over the next several weeks with the
State, MT Properties, and Minnesota Commercial. He added that staff has stressed to them a sense of
urgency to complete this deal, since the City has only sixty days to close on the Estes property.
Business Report
Chamber of Commerce
Nustad reported that Lesher would be attending the Chamber luncheon meeting in September and all
businesses will be surveyed soon.
New Brighton Business Council
Black reported that the last Business Council was well attended. Some concerns about break-ins were
brought up and the Public Safety Department will provide a representative for the next meeting to answer
Page 1 of 4
