-3 -
Council Member Burg mentioned that the Council members and School
Board meet four times a year to talk about City and school issues that are
• of common interest. The Council just met with the School District but
perhaps there could be a work session to discuss this issue. It could be
brought to the City Manager's attention that this needs discussion and he
will decide if a work session is needed.
The Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission recommended that
this item be passed along to the City Manager for resolution soon. It is at
the City Manager's discretion whether the Council and School District get
involved in a work session on this issue.
C. Trails Committee Update -- Lisa Harreld
Commissioner Harreld stated the Trails Committee just met for 1 hour
before this Commission meeting. Everyone is welcome to..come. We
talked about trail access by the new proposed hotel on Hwy. 90 across
from Beisswenger's. There will be a crossing on Old Hwy. 8 that will
connect with the trail that is already there that goes into Lang Lake Park.
The City will make a recommendation for an easement or access on the
south side to connect with the Arden Hills trail. The Committee made a
recommendation to Ramsey County that the crossing at Long Lake Road
and 694 be moved up '/z block to the north side of the median. Ramsey
County is already working on this. Also, we are working on the signage
within and around New Brighton. We have a group of volunteers who will
be going around the City martttally taking inventory (taking photos) of
signs and documenting them. We have also been looking at an old
abandon railroad bridge that goes over 35W, just north of 694 (near the
Holiday Gas Station). There has been some interest within New Brighton
and in Arden'Hills in seeing if we can get access to use that bridge as a
pedestrian crossing. We are hoping to have discussion with some people
from Arden Hills and hopefully with Ramsey County. The next Trails
Committee meeting is Wednesday, December 5th at 5:30 p.m. (preceding
the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission meeting). Everyone
is welcome to attend.
VII. Announcements
A. Chair Updates
Chair Frischman made the comment that the last meeting was held at
Hansen Park and between 4:30 — 8:30 pm her car was broken into. She
wanted to encourage residents who live near the park to be vigilant in
looking for inappropriate behavior and to call the Public Safety
Department when you see suspicious or inappropriate behavior.
B. Department Happenings
Director Breuer went through the October Department Happenings with
the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission.
The Family Service Center marketing piece was presented and discussed
briefly. It was mentioned that we are working on inserts that will be
targeted toward a specific group, (i.e. if a mailing was sent to day cares;
the insert would be targeted toward the Eagles Nest, listing rates and group
