• MINUTES New Brighton Economic Development Commission Regular Meeting — April 1, 2008 7:00 a.m. Members/Liaisons Present: Bob Benke, Dennis Flahave, Linda Harmon, John Kauthold, Mark Nelson, Cynthia Lesher, and Jim Sculthorp. Members/Liaisons Absent: Steve Larson. Staff Present: Dean Lotter, Grant Fernelius, David Black, and Jennifer Lavandowska. Call to Order Nelson called the meeting to order at 7:05 a.m. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the March 4, 2008 meeting were presented for approval. All approved. Commission Organization Black reported that the Council held a work session on March 25`h to discuss various City commissions. Attendance records were reviewed, and those commissioners missing four or more meetings in 2007 were removed from their positions at the Council meeting later that evening. It was also decided that each commission would have seven members. Kaufhold asked how a commissioner could receive an excused absence. Black replied that he understands that there is no provision for differentiating between excused and unexcused absences. Burg noted that there has always been a provision which allows for the removal of a commissioner due to missed meetings. Hannon suggested that the Council should make sure that they are not alienating people in the City who may want to join a commission, and said she does not understand the benefit of having only seven commissioners versus nine. Motion by Hannon, second by Kaufhold THANKING GENE DELAUNE AND GARY STANG FOR THEIR BALANCED INPUT AND OPINIONS AS IT RELATES TO THIS COMMISSION AND THEIR PAST SERVICE; THE REMAINING COMMISSION MEMBERS LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH EITHER ONE OF THEM IN THE FUTURE. 7 ayes, 0 nays. MOTION CARRIED. Motion by Harmon, second by Lesher THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION IS DISAPPOINTED WITH THE PROCESS THAT WAS TAKEN AND THE REMOVAL OF GENE DELAUNE AND GARY STANG FROM THIS COMMISSION. • 7 ayes, 0 nays.
