Rice Creek, Long Lake and Pike Lake. Jones Lake may also be added to that list
in 2008.
- 3—
The City SWPPP currently lists 18 things it is doing; Kerry is suggesting two
more things be added to that list. Kerry also went through the list of suggested
changes to SWPPP. Changes to our SWPPP need to be implemented by June,
2008. Our annual report will also be submitted in June.
VI. New Business
A. Skateboard Park - Ray Tandeski
Jason introduced Ray Tandeski as the "Graffiti Guy". He cleans up the graffiti
time after time. Jason stated he is also making a positive influence down at the
skateboard park at Freedom.
Tandeski stated it is the VIPs that are working on these issues together; not just
him. Things VIPs do: Project Life Saver, park patrol, child safety seat clinics,
fingerprinting, bicycle helmet sales, Kidcare Pictures, Santa Cop Program, graffiti
surveillance and cleanup, signage, neighborhood speed. watch, Red Cross Blood
Drives, New Brighton Triathlon/Stockyard Days. The VIPs objective is to keep
the officers in their cars so they are free to respond to calls.
Tandeski also spoke about the graffiti at Freedom Park. The skateboarders are
helping to identify some of the individuals who do the graffiti. In return Ray has
. promised to help them get some things fixed at the skateboard park. He would like
to help these kids in any way he can. Tandeski said he heard that perhaps the
skateboard park would be removed because of the trouble there has been there.
The skateboarders were very shocked to hear that. They said they would have no
place to go. Tandeski guesses there are about 100 kids that use that park from
summer until the snow flies. The skateboarders would also like to hold a
competition. They would provide the tricks and the judges.
Budzynski commented that it would be nice to have some PREC members at this
competition (if it happens) to observe and support them. Tandeski said this would
be great.
Heinrich said it would be good to have a high school rep. Tandeski thought
having a group (perhaps the 6 that have already volunteered) give their
perspective and ideas.
If residents see any graffiti in the city, call the graffiti hotline at 651-288-4134.
Frischman inquired if the individuals at the skateboard park had been
"recognized" in any way by the Public Safety Dept.
Tandeski stated this is the first presentation he has given. He wanted to see if this
• Commission could help out in any way. Tandeski wanted the Commission to
know about the kids that are out their in the park.
Harreld asked if graffiti was removed from private (as well as public) property.
