Tandeski said only once did we work on private property. They were asked by a
Police Officer to do so.
4 -
Meyer, stated this community is very lucky to have someone like you who is
willing to work on these things.
Samuelson thanked him for a very thorough report and his work with the kids at
the skateboard park.
B. MRPA Board and Commission Symposium
Frischman encouraged participation in this symposium.
West stated the symposium is on April 22nd, 6:30-9:OOpm in Roseville. This is
something new for MRPA. The symposium will include Board and Commission
responsibilities, differences between elected and advisory boards, consultant Greg
Ingraham will be there, public input process will be discussed, cost effective input
ideas, there will be a lobbyist there to talk about recreation legislation, also guest
panelists. At least three commissioners stated they would attend. A reminder
e-mail will go out. Others that would like to attend were to let Jason West know
by Friday.
C. Veteran's Park Playground Structure
Frischman stated West will provide information about this process and answer
questions of the commission. No recommendation is needed.
• West stated this is part of our non -infra -structure dollars. The Director of Parks
and Recreation will take this recommendation to the Council on April 22nd. The
favored quote will be awarded on April 23`d. West showed a diagram of the
proposed play structure from Game Time. We have $39,000 in replacement cost
dollars. We requested $30,000 of actual play structure cost. The rest is for wood
fiber, trim, grading and incidentals. Game Time is giving us $42,000 worth of
playground equipment. They are giving the City $13,000 in trade-in for the old
structure. The old structure is also a Game Time structure. All other quotes came
in at the $30,000 mark. We are getting almost $43,000 of play structure for
$30,000. This structure has 4 slides, 4 play decks, a suspension bridge. There is a
sky runner, 8 foot rock climber and it has power lock connections which will
reduce the amount of hardware used and helps prevent vandalism.
Chris Wolla, Park Maintenance Manager stated the power lock system is
something that he particularly likes about this structure. The old system using
clamps and bolts would shift and move after time and can make the structure
dangerous if they shift apart enough. With the new system, the bolt is inside and
the cap goes over it with a locking compound. The only way to get it off is to cut
it. If there would be a maintenance issue, that could be a headache but in the long
run it will be best. There are 85% less hardware in this structure. From a
maintenance stand point, that means less that can go wrong.
• Game Time is the vendor that put in the outdoor play structure, for the school, at
the Family Service Center.
