West stated that if we go with this vendor we could have it in as early as June.
Ron Meyer stated he lives by Veterans Park; above the playground and it gets
• much use.
D. City Code Revision
Frischman stated that this item has already been discussed in the Council Report.
E. Trails Committee Update — Lisa Harreld
Lisa Harreld stated the Trails Committee met just prior to this Parks, Recreation
and Environmental Commission meeting. This is an Ad -Hoc Committee that has
been meeting for about 1 year. The goal is to talk about sidewalk and trails within
New Brighton and ways to encourage walking and biking and talking about safety
concerns. Tonight there were three different areas of discussion. Brad Marten,
staff liaison, brought up the area around Cleveland Avenue. There will be a lift
station replacement in this area in 2009 and when they do that they will have to
rip up Cleveland Avenue. This may give opportunity to put a sidewalk in on
Cleveland Ave. It is a County road. The sidewalk will help make it safer and will
make a connection to Arden Hills. Long Lake Road will be repaved this summer.
There has been discussion about having bike lane signage or identification. We
have been talking with Ramsey County to make Long Lake more accessible and
safer for bikes. First Street NW railroad crossing was discussed near Main Street
Village, on the south side of Bell Pole. We talked about different ideas and we are
keeping an eye on that area as the Post Office will move in soon and the area
becomes more developed. Harreld reminded drivers to be more cautious as spring
comes, there will be more bikers and walkers. Stay alert and be safe. Next
meeting is May 7`h at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. We strongly encourage anyone with
an interest to attend.
VII. Announcements
A. Chair Updates
Frischman stated that residents should have received the Summer Newsletter with
many activities. Register begins April 8, or immediately if registering online.
B. Department Happenings
Jason West went through the Department Happenings power point for March.
Town Hall meeting is Saturday, April 26`h , 8:30 am — Noon. The Northwest
Quadrant discussion will be a strong focus of the meeting.
VIII. Adjourn
MOTION BY SCOTT BUDZYNSKI, SECONDED BY DON HEIRICH, TO ADJOURN AT
8:11 P.M. MOTION CARRIED.
•
