-4—
twice a year. That's why the kids are going up to 19"' instead of coining through
Hansen Park.
• Lastly, if we have $62,000, not that I'm thrilled about spending it at all, instead of
spending it on creating a new path, which we don't know will be maintained or not,
why don't we spend it on the current path as all the neighbors would like to continue
to see. Then we can continue to look at the lake, and have the kid ride his bike
through there, instead of in the back of someone's house.
Mark Barton, 275 14"' Ave NW
I am on Hansen Park, not in the area that is affected here. Came in late and doesn't
know if there was discussion about the rationale for moving the path. He often rides
bike in that area and he knows it can be wet. Generally it's good enough to ride
through there. He enjoys going by the lake. He wondered why they are not putting the
path down by the lake; building up that area and trying to make that path better. He
understands that they want to make another path for the kids to go to Bel Air. He
thought Dennis' ideas made good sense. The existing path is really nice. How much
thought has gone into making it better and more useable. He uses the ball fields every
year; coaching little league for the last nine years. The fields can get a little wet, but
they work pretty well for the younger kids; he would not want the ball fields to go
away.
Pat Wells, 623 17t" Ave NW
She lives right where Option A angles down. Want to reiterate some things. She has
talked with some parents and teachers that have said they don't think the kids are
going to use this path to go to school. People are much more wary of having their kids
out of their site. Have always said this path right now would be wonderful if it hadn't
been let go wild. When we first moved there, you could get right down to the pond.
Her kids had rafts. For awhile it was maintained very well and then they said they
couldn't do it because it was too wet. She walks the paths in the park. The one in the
back, the floating one is nice, but it's creepy. There are signs in the park that say don't
walk alone. Kids are not going to go through there alone. I would hate for this to go in
in my backyard and have nobody use it. I do not see how there could be so much
money spent on the trail (with the class 5). I have seen only one board on our end of
the park that has been changed in years. I hope you think about it.
Norm Wells, 623 17t" Ave NW
Several years ago they redid 17"' Ave. The street was supposed to be a 7-9 ton. He
suggested 9 ton because the school buses race down the street morning and night;
afternoons too when the kindergarteners get out. Even when the street was under
construction and closed to thru traffic, you couldn't keep the school buses out. He was
told that the buses were supposed to go up 7'11 Street, down Silver Lake Road and
down 5'1. 17"' Street was never supposed to be an access point, but it is a heck of a
short cut. He thinks it is past time to go to the City Council and School Board so all of
the buses will stay off that street. It will be a lot safer for everyone, not just kids.
There are kids on the street who race out of their driveways on their bicycles; they
sometimes look; sometimes don't. He cannot believe there hasn't been someone
picked off by a bus, garbage truck or by those that speed down 5"', 17"' , 7t" and over
to Polynesian Village. The biggest problem is when people are late to their softball
game and race down 17t" to get to the softball game. We've had police sitting there,
