-2-
• There was a survey of parents to see how many would prefer to see their kids walking
on that path. As you walk down the path, the first four homes, you cannot see the
children because of the trees, when they get in the middle of it, you can't see the
children from there. They are totally out of eyesight from anybody. If I had a child, I
would not allow them to walk down that path.
• Will there be any additional tax money needed to move the ball field fence? Or will
the grant cover the entire cost of that?
• On both ends of the path there is quite a slope. The kids will be sliding on that in the
ice and snow. It will have to be maintained in the winter because of the ice and snow.
• Concerned with a path in the back of their homes. There is no lighting, you will open
it up vandalism and theft. Will the area be patrolled? Will there be any fences put up
to keep kids from walking in his yard; only 30 feet from that path? Will the dogs be
going in his garden?
• Will it be mandatory for the kids to walk on this path? Does it mean they will not
walk on the street any more?
• Is there a path that goes from Bel Air School? When you go north, there is a path that
empties out on 19"' Street which is a horseshoe street and has very little traffic. The
kids would only have to walk a''/z block, propose a crossing light go in there, the kids
would cross 7"' Street (the kids from Highview going south could use that).
• The other option, if kids are walking in the street, and the path is not mandatory,
suggest we put a white stripe where it could be a biking/walking path or signs that
would say "no parking during school hours". This would provide a place for them to
walk.
Mr. Martin stated he would appreciate it if someone would get back to him on those
ideas. He would be more than happy to receive a phone call or meet with someone and
update him on what is going on.
Dennis Guldan, 563 17'x' Ave NW
• Where the path splits (option A) is directly in the back of his house.
• The reason they planted behind their home was for habitat reasons. They planted
bushes and fruit trees. Now we have nesting Baltimore Orioles and nesting wood
ducks and a series of nesting birds that we haven't had before. Kids that come to
baseball games enjoy seeing a Baltimore Oriole for the first time. We added to the
park. If anyone says it's a detriment, that's their personal opinion. We want to see the
wild life.
• He works from home; his office overlooks the park. He watches the kids come to
school every day. There are about 8 or 10 that come by. Most of the kids walk up to
19°i and they walk in the back end of Bel Air. The reason they do that is because
where the Mayor lives on the corner of 17t" Ave & 5"' St. (He was here last time. I
wish he was able to speak because he helped create the park and he wasn't allowed to
speak and it's a sad situation that he wasn't listened to and therefore, he isn't even
showing up tonight). What happens is, they are brought to the end of the path, brought
up to where Mayor Senden's house is, and they are not allowed to cross into Bel Air
until just prior to the start of school, which means you have a bunch of kids sitting on
his property, which does no good at all. The rest of the kids walk through 19`x' and go
right on to the playground; not at all safe.
