-2 -
We also talked about safety issues. We will be working with Public Safety and
Ramsey County on these issues.
Budzynski mentioned that the Silver Lake Road crossing is very dangerous.
Someone was hit this summer. At the Blaine Sports Center they have the yellow
lights there that you can press and it will turn to red. It also is solar powered. A
blinking light on both sides (because of the hill) would be a warning sign that
people are crossing the road.
Also, the crossing on Long Lake Road, just north of Irondale, before the railroad
tracks is very dangerous.
Norton said he seconds those points. There is a curve in Long Lake Road there.
Going south on Long Lake Road, you can't see what's coming.
Silver Lake Road is a 4 lane road. As a pedestrian, you do not know if a vehicle
will change lanes. He does not see how pedestrians can get through there safely
without a red light actually stopping traffic, as opposed to signage which may or
may not be seen by a driver. A high percentage of vehicles will stop, but not
everyone. That is a bad situation.
Herrald felt the public safety issue should be discussed more.
VII. Announcements
A. Chair Updates ,
Acting Chair Budzynski stated he wanted to discuss whether or not there would be
a December meeting. There is nothing pressing for the agenda. Trevorrow
commented that if there is nothing for the agenda, he suggested the meeting be
canceled. Samuelson agreed. MOTION BY TREVORROW, SECONDED BY
NORTON, TO CANCEL THE DECEMBER MEETING. MOTION CARRIED.
Budzynski also mentioned that the Winter/Spring Brochure is out. The brochure
was done in-house by Andy Soltvedt which saved the City about $1,500 dollars.
B. Department Happenings
Breuer went over the Department Happenings for the month of October.
Breuer mentioned there were three wonderful pictures of the Brightwood Hills
Golf Course in the New Brighton Bulletin. The Golf Course is still open for about
another week and a half; weather permitting.
Trevorrow asked if there was an update on the Safe Routes to Schools trail
information. Breuer stated that currently this project sits in the hands of the City
. Engineer. Council sent it back to staff. They want to keep the trail in its current
location. We have to go out and get the cost info. Once the Council receives that
information, there will be a decision made whether we will proceed or not.
Harreld asked if the Council was aware of the 3 different grant request proposals
in the initial request to the Council?
