I 1 1 City of New Brighton February 25, 1982 Gene Stokes, 733 Redwood Lane, asked how the costs for the project were broken down and what was considered to be the most important element of this project. Les Proper, City Engineer, stated that approximately $133,000 were for street construction and about $85,000 was for curb and gutters and that in his opinion both projects were equally important. Mr. Proper stated that the concrete curbing proposed is far better for drainage and much less costly in terms of overall maintenance. Mr. Stokes asked how the assessments were to be paid. The City Engineer replied that the payments would be spread over perhaps a ten year period or could be paid off immediately to avoid any interest penalty. Mrs. Ramona Christiansen, 825 Forest Dale Road, questioned what assurances there were that the project as proposed would be successful. Mrs. Christiansen replied that everyone had lived for many years with this problem and that the main concern was that the project be done right. The City Engineer stated that he felt confident that with concrete curb and gutters that the water flow could be controlled and the project a success. Mrs. Christiansen questioned what the recourse would be if the project were not successful. The City Engineer replied that if the project were not successful it would have to be redone. Mrs. Christiansen asked if the driveways removed and temporarily replaced last summer would be permanently replaced with concrete at this time. The City Engineer replied that those temporary driveways would be redone with a permanent concrete surface. Harvey Evert, 862 Redwood Lane, stated that he was also concerned with driveway replacement. Mr. Don Erickson, 900 Redwood Lane, stated his concern was for the end result and also stated that he was very much in favor of this project. -6-
