<br />1 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />City of New Brighton <br />March 23, 1982 <br /> <br />Mr. Gayle Bromander, representing the New <br />Brighton Historical Society and the Minnesota <br />Transportation Museum, stated that he had <br />the following four requests: <br /> <br />1) That the New Brighton Historical Society <br />was requesting that a small patch of rhubarb <br />(approximately 1 acre) be retained on the <br />park site for historical purposes. <br />2) That the New Brighton Historical Society <br />was requesting that all foundations of old <br />building sites be retained for a period of <br />at least one year to determine if they <br />have any historical significance. <br />3) That the New Brighton I!istorica1 Society <br />and New Brighton Jaycees would like to <br />stage the "Stockyard Days" as an annual <br />event and are requesting that the park <br />plan be amended and include a designation <br />for the "Stockyard Days" celebration. <br />4) That the Minnesota Transportation Museum <br />and New Brighton Historical Society are <br />requesting that the park plan be amended <br />to provide for access and parking on the <br />park property so as to facilitate the <br />development of the Minnesota Transportation <br />l'1useum. <br /> <br />Mr. Mark Fonken, 1753 14th Avenue NW, stated that <br />he was a lake homeowner and City resident and that <br />he was professionally an attorney that practiced <br />in the area of tort liability. Mr. Fonken stated <br />that as a friend of the Council he felt he should <br />inform the Council that because of the real concern <br />for boat safety on Long Lake that there is the <br />possibility of tort liability on a personal basis <br />for the Ci ty Council in the event of accidents. <br /> <br />Mr. Val Burdick, 1694 14th Avenue NW, read and <br />presented a petition requesting a municipal <br />referendum worded as follows: <br /> <br />"Should the City of New Brighton develop the Long <br />Lake Park site as a Municipal Park rather than <br />selling the property to Ramsey County for development <br />as a Regional Park?" <br /> <br />The Mayor with consent of the Council directed <br />receipt of the petition. <br /> <br />Mr. Burdick stated that the choice of park development <br />was tc far reaching for just Park Board and Council <br />action.
