To direct staff to make available to the public information <br />on water treatment equipment and the need for such equipment, <br />to work closely with the Attorney General's office in the <br />investigation of any potential consumer fraud and to work <br />with the local media in informing residents about this <br />equipment; and <br /> <br />3. Futher, to direct staff to prepare a letter outlining <br />our findings to date for mailing to the local citizens. <br /> <br />Mr. Loren Smeester, . President of Rain Soft Corporation, <br />stated his firm has equipment that will remove the <br />known contaminents being discussed and that his firm <br />is a legitimate company. <br /> <br />Vote on the motion. <br />5 ayes - 0 nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Janecek to refer the <br />Director of Public Works' report to the EQC and <br />direct them to continue their study and request <br />they keep the Council advised of all findings. <br />5 ayes - 0 nayes - motion carried <br /> <br />The Director of Parks and Recreation was <br />present to discuss his report. <br /> <br />Joint Powers Agreement <br />Long Lake Park <br />Report No. 81-153 <br /> <br />patricia Commers, President of the Long Lake <br />Improvement Association, was present and discussed <br />the contents of a letter dated July 21, 1981 regarding <br />the proposed Joint Powers Agreement with Ramsey County. <br /> <br />The Mayor with consent of the Council directed <br />receipt and filing of the July 21, 1981 letter <br />from Patricia Commers. <br /> <br />Motion by Blomquist, seconded by Schmidt to defer <br />action on the proposed Joint Powers Agreement until <br />August 11, 1981 in order that the City Council and <br />the City Attorney may review the letter from the <br />Long Lake Improvement Association. <br /> <br />Mr. Mark Fonken, 1753 14th Avenue NW, stated that he <br />was concerned, along with many others, that the <br />proposed Joint Powers Agreement does not provide <br />for withdrawal from the agreement should it not be <br />possible to work out all areas with Ramsey County. <br />Mr. Fonken presented the Council with a proposed <br />addendum to the Joint Powers Agreement and asked <br />that the Council consider attaching such an addendum <br />to any approval of the Joint Powers Agreement. <br /> <br />-4- <br />
