Page 4
•
Strictly enforce park hours; give citations. There was a major fight; with a
knife, a bat and a pellet gun.
•
Remove picnic shelter — In 15 years have only seen one family cook out there.
This shelter allows smoking drinking and drug dealing (all weather).
•
Need to enforce rules, re: smoking, drinking, etc.
•
This is not about the boarders, we need you to step up and be a part of the
solution.
Katherine Martin, 1904 13' St NW
•
Lives right behind the park.
•
There is confusion with garbage on whose responsibility certain containers are
(School district or City). That may be why it is overflowing.
•
Shelter at the top of the hill has so much graffiti. She presented photos to the
Commission.
•
Skaters using the park are great. It is the ones that aren't here that are the
issue.
•
The skate park needs to be fixed. The area is embarrassing.
•
Illegal behaviors need to be enforced.
•
In favor or the skate park in the proper place, fenced and in the proper
condition.
•
The skate park is right next to the playground program. It is not the right place
for it.
Ray
Tandeski, Volunteer in Public Safety (VIPs), lives on Patton Road
•
He is coordinator for the graffiti program and that is how he met the
skateboarders in 2006.
•
In 2008 the graffiti was nearly non-existent. The quicker you paint it over, the
less activity you will see We don't use the same color. We use whatever is
available.
•
Agree with previous speakers about trash and graffiti, vandalism, fighting,
drugs. The ramps did not cause these problems, people do.
•
There is a small percentage of individuals that are responsible for the negative
things that go on. Maybe 3 to 5 to 8 individuals. There are about 30-90 youth
using the park as it was intended.
•
Ray met with the youth. Goal is to save the skateboard park. At first meeting
they had about 30 youth. Team leaders, Mark Gafken & Tyler Jewett, were
chosen at this meeting.
Mark Gafken, Skateboarder and Team Leader
•
They have made decisions on how to help with some of the issues in the park.
They have been going around the park after they are done skateboarding and
picking up garbage. Graffiti — they will call the graffiti hot line. Vandalism
they will call the Police. Will report fighting to the graffiti hotline where it
will then be relayed to the Police and school officer. Drugs, they will become
invisible and then call 911.
Tyler Jewett, Skateboarder and Team Leader
•
He wanted to mention that in St. Anthony he has seen drug deals there. They
just hide it better. The website mentioned is talking about the condition of the
skate park because it hasn't been updated since it went in. It is not taken care
of very well.
•
If PREC decides to keep the skate park, the skateboarders have agreed to:
o Skateboarders will continue monthly meetings to check up on how
things are going and report any problems.
