Page 5
o Team Leaders will be available at PREC Commission meetings to
keep them informed of progress and resolution of any problems.
o Requesting a good faith time interval to prove the result of our
youth -empowered program from May 6 — December 2009 to
improve the park and show they care.
o All participants of the skateboard park will be asked to sign and
respect the rules of behavior requested by the Pike Lake Skaters
and Team Leaders. The pledge consists of.
We the undersigned skateboarders that make up a, newly organized
team to keep our skateboard park to make Freedom Park a safe
environment for all residents in New Brighton. We will keep the
park free from trash by picking up after skateboarding, graffiti by
reporting it to the hotline, vandalism by calling the same hotline,
fighting by calling 911 or an adult, tobacco ;by referring. people to
the no smoking sign in the park and drugs and alcohol by reporting
it to 911. Their intent is to use the park to pursue their hobby of
skateboarding and to keep it safe for themselves, families and
neighbors.
Tandeski stated it is unbelievable what they do with that sport.
When asked how to do a trick, he has never seen any hesitation by
a skater to teach someone a trick or to coach them. He is proud to
be associated with the skateboard youth. These are not the youth
that lead to the petition to close the skateboard park. Let's get to
the youth that are causing the problem. Let's make the decision to
let these 30-90 people use the skateboard park.
The skateboarders want to have a sign in the park with the rules, so
they can point to the sign and say, tell kids to observe the rules,
change your behavior or leave the park.
Tandeski would like to have meetings with the residents to come
up with a way to solve the issue of these few that are causing
problems.
Tyler Jewett felt that the condition of the skate park may be a
reason why it is vandalized. It looks bad, so people feel they can
abuse it.
Tyler stated there are huge bumps in the skate park and you loose
your balance and fall. This make skateboarders not want to use the
park.
Tyler also stated that if others are there and not skating they will
just watch and talk to them or they will go up to the pavilion and
hang out. Many of the kids that are causing problems there live in
the area. They have commented that they will still come to the park
even if the skateboard park is gone because they live close.
