• <br />Of <br />Report Number 09-236 <br />Agenda Section VI -4 <br />BPJGfflDN <br />the city that works For you Council Meeting Date October 13, 2009 <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Resolution approving Grant Agreement with the Minnesota Department of <br />Employment and Economic Development (DEED) relating to sanitary sewer and storm water <br />improvements in the Northwest Quadrant. <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: Grant Fernelius, Director of Community Development <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this rcpor%---V,, - Comments attached <br />Recommendation: <br />Waive the reading and approve the attached resolution, which accepts the latest grant award and <br />authorizes the Mayor and City Manager to execute the appropriate documents. <br />Legislative History: <br />May 2005 The City receives a $2.OM allocation of state bond funds to assist with the <br />relocation of the east side MCES sanitary sewer interceptor. This request was <br />related to the former Medtronic redevelopment proposal. <br />May 2006 After deciding not to relocate the MCES sewer interceptor, the City sought and <br />received legislative approval to amend the scope of eligible improvements. The <br />Legislature then expanded the list to include "sanitary sewer and storm water <br />improvements in the Northwest Quadrant." <br />March 2007 The City entered into a grant agreement with DEED in conjunction with $568,904 <br />worth of eligible public improvements. The remaining funds would be tied to one <br />or more subsequent grant agreements. <br />Financial Impact: <br />The attached grant agreement covers storm water improvements made to Old Highway 8, and the <br />east side ponds. The cost of these improvements is $849,592. The remaining grant funds will be <br />requested later this fall. <br />Explanation: <br />This grant will allow the City to cover a substantial portion of the storm water and sanitary sewer <br />work for the development, including curb and gutters as components of storm water drainage, <br />plus ponding, pipes and City engineering costs. <br />IiCOUNCIL\REPORTS\2009\Community Development\I0-13-2009\State Special Appropriation (2005-2006),doc <br />
