birthday parties and groups to the Eagles Nest. As a result this will allow our
current Recreation Programmer to move out of this role and take on more
program responsibilities. This programmer will be able to take on more
programs, but based on the current pay plan, we have to be careful with the
amount of staff this position can supervise or the pay grade will change to a
higher level. That being said it limits the programs that this individual can
supervise.
Based on program decline, cost to running the program, or populations served
we recommend the following classes (services) be discontinued until further
staffing resources are available:
Kids Night Out/Parents Night Off— This is a program offered twice a month,
October -March & once a month in June and July. Our numbers are declining
and other agencies (churches, schools) are offering similar programs. We would
not start up this program this fall.
Teen Scene — This program is offered three Fridays a month, September — May.
It is a joint venture with CPY with their youth getting free entry. The majority of
the youth attending are CPY youth. We would not start up this program in the
fall.
Skyhawks Camps — Camps of various types that are offered in the summer by
another agency; we provide the facility, marketing, take reservations and receive
10% of the income. Numbers are down, revenue is low and there is a lot of work
for staff to offer these camps. We are too late in the contract agreement to
discontinue for 2010. In 2011 P & R would not offer Skyhawks programs.
Safety Camp — Program offered in August with two other communities. P & R
has it in our brochure this year, we are accepting registration, we will arrange
lifeguards (program will pay for), we will not provide full time staff from P & R to
assist; Public Safety is maintaining their involvement. In 2011 P & R would not
assist with this program.
Senior Prom — This program is offered every spring and in 2010 we celebrated
25 years of doing this program; hence our reason for wanting to offer it in 2010.
This program is labor intensive and serves very few New Brighton residents.
Discontinue for 2011.
Indoor Tennis — Held at Highview Middle School from November — March.
Lessons are held for 2-4 children per hour on Saturday mornings. We do not pay
a fee to use Highview, however we do pay for an instructor and a building
attendant to be at the school. Net revenue is low and it takes a considerable
amount of supervisor time to run the program. Discontinue this fall. We would
continue to offer our outdoors tennis lessons during the spring and summer.
N:Se tceL lsM .doc
