Twins Clinic — Offered in the spring each year. No cost to participant, we
provide the facility (FSC Gym). This program is labor intensive for staff and we
have challenges with working with the Twins organization in a timely fashion to
secure a date. Discontinue in 2011.
Adaptive Recreation Teen Club — Held at Freedom Park, the winter session of
this program had only 13 teens/young adults registered. All registrants had home
addresses or group home addresses outside of the City of New Brighton. We
would not start up this program in the fall. We would continue to offer the
adaptive bowling club.
Annual Tree Sale — Held each spring. Sale provides residents with a lower cost
alternative to purchasing a tree at a local nursery. This is a service the City has
provided its residents for many years, but very little review is generated, and it is
labor intensive.
Future Considerations:
Even with the above proposed cuts, additional cuts need to be made in order to
match the current staffing levels.
In doing this exercise we decided that no stone could be left unturned. We are
currently reviewing the following programs. Two of these programs involve the
use of school district facilities (where we are charged a fee). Two programs
make very little money, but provide a service to the youth of the community.
Youth field trips have been a program in decline; registration in 2010 may
determine our recommendation.
We are not recommending that all of the programs listed below be discontinued.
However, based on staff levels and work load, we need to discontinue some of
these programs. The following programs are under review for continuation or
service levels cuts:
Gymnastics - This program is held at Irondale High school and is a feeder
program for the school district. We pay facility fees as well as building supervisor
fees. This program is one of the few programs where our registration is
predominately girls ages 4 through 3`d grade.
Aquatics — St. Anthony is also reviewing this program to see if they want to
continue with the joint powers agreement. If St. Anthony wants to continue to be
part of this joint powers agreement, they have indicated an interest in updating
and revising the agreement. In addition, Mounds View School District
established fees in 2008 for facility use and the fees for pool usage are becoming
difficult to pass off to the customer. We have approached the school district and
although the program is held in their facilities they have no interest in taking over
this program.
H:Smim 4vels Mam.doc
