U Report Number 1-159
Agenda Section VI-3
the Cray that works for you Council Meeting Date July 13, 2010
• REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Proposal to add new membership options at the Family Service Center
for patron convenience.
DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: Sandy Breuer; Director of Parks and Recreation
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL:
No comments to suDvlement this
Comments attached
Recommendation: v
The Family Service Center is proposing to add new membership options to increase revenues and add
patron convenience. With these options also comes an increase in membership fees. The primary added
value of the proposed membership options is the ability for our patrons to use an Automated
Clearing House (ACH) for electronic funds transfer (EFT) or Credit Cards monthly, to pay for
their membership.
Legislative History:
None
•Financial Impact:
The attached spreadsheet in this report is explained below. In reference to the spreadsheet the
areas of focus are the yellow columns current rates, green columns suggested rates, peach
columns the difference and the purple column % change. Other columns of interest are the clubs
we used to compare rates and remain competitive.
The attached spreadsheet reflects the current price on all annual memberships that will
remain the same. The difference is adding a monthly membership which will reflect an
average increase of 15% over the current annual membership. Fees were decided based
on a comparison of similar size community centers and competing fitness centers
maintaining a lower competitive rate for the value.
The Parks Recreation and Environmental Commission unanimously approved the
new membership options reflected on the spreadsheet in this report at the July 7,
2010 meeting to move forward.
New monthly fees will cover the cost of including select group fitness classes, pool use,
Automated Clearing House (ACH) for electronic funds transfer (EFT), credit card fees, staff
wages to process the monthly membership and Vanco health insurance reimbursement
processing fees. Memberships will also include an initial joining or administrative fee of $25.
Memberships can be upgraded, downgraded, or changed at anytime for a change fee of $10.
Monthly memberships can be placed on hold for $5 each month, annual memberships can not be
•placed on hold. Family memberships consist of two adults and up to 4 dependants in the same
home, each additional member is $10 per month. Dual memberships consists of any two
individuals in the same home, each additional member is $15 per month.
Cand S¢tongs\patkiMD.h.,Memb,rsWp proposal)B.doc
