Department Reports <br /> Human Rights <br /> Commissioner Woods attended the state Human Rights day on Friday, December 3rd. She <br /> distributed information on this conference. Commissioner Woods also attended the monthly <br /> League of MN Cities Human Rights Commission meeting last Sunday; the topic was anti- <br /> bullying. "Stand Up Day" is scheduled for Saturday, February 5th, at the Chaska Community <br /> Center which will deal with bullying issues. <br /> Commissioner Woods noted that New Brighton is entitled to have 2 persons on the Human <br /> Rights Commission and suggested that Commissioner Haring could be this person. <br /> Commissioner Woods has spoken to Commissioner Haring about this and she would be <br /> interested. <br /> Commissioner Woods noted that on Saturday, February 26, there will be an"Afternoon of <br /> Conversation About Juvenile Justice in Minnesota"discussion held in St. Cloud. This discussion <br /> will look at how Ramsey County has succeeded in reducing the daily number of juveniles going <br /> to the Juvenile Detention Center. <br /> Allina Medical <br /> Mr. Dave Matteson noted that with the winter weather, run volumes have been pretty thick. <br /> Allina does staff according to the weather forecasts so they have adequate personnel working <br /> when inclement weather hits our area. <br /> Allina is hiring another 10 paramedics. They hope to continue to add more paramedics <br /> approximately every 4 months through the year; the goal is to hopefully hire 30-40 more <br /> paramedics. <br /> Allina is adding 12 hours/day, 7 days/week more coverage for the north metro as call load <br /> continues to be high. Allina is looking for a new location as they have outgrown their current <br /> space. They are looking for approx. 25,000 sq. ft. with room for indoor parking for 30 <br /> ambulances. <br /> Mr. Matteson will pull 2010 stats for the next meeting. <br /> Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> The VIPS held their monthly meeting last night. Commissioner Woods reported the following: <br /> a The last blood drive resulted in 22 pints of blood being donated. <br /> a The VIPS donated 1,641 hours in 2010. <br /> a The VIPS continue to do house checks for residents who are gone for an extended time. <br /> a 120 sets of fingerprints were taken in 2010. <br /> a There will be a Citizen Police Academy(CPA) starting March 3rd and continuing for 8 wks. <br /> a The MN VOAD conference will be held in February at Trinity Lutheran Church in <br /> Bloomington. <br />
