The VIPS will <br /> continue to change the batteries in the bracelets for New Brighton clients <br /> Public Safety/Homeland Security Update <br /> Director Jacobson noted the upcoming public educational opportunities; the Citizen Police <br /> Academy and the Identity Theft/Fraud classes. <br /> WCCO (Channel 4) is doing a feature story in February on the unsolved case of the body found <br /> in Long Lake Regional Park 10 years ago. Also, the 1 year anniversary of Mr. Lee Goodwin's <br /> death is coming up so we will do a news release for this case as well. <br /> Two suspects stopped by Officer Bengtson were determined to have just robbed the EZ Stop. A <br /> good job was done by everyone involved. <br /> The 9 new Fire Fighters started on January 1st. They are starting their Fire Fighter I training. <br /> We did receive a grant to pay for the equipment and training for these new Fire Fighters. <br /> National Geographic is doing a story on Medium Toast. They were in town to interview Officer <br /> Krebsbach and get some film footage. <br /> The annual New Brighton Police Reserve Appreciation dinner was held. Commissioner Kerns, <br /> who is also a Reserve, was named 2009 Reserve Officer of the Year. Public Safety Officer <br /> Derek Livingston, who is also a Reserve, was named 2010 Reserve Officer of the Year. <br /> The annual Police Division meeting was held with the following awards being awarded: <br /> • Acting Sergeant Mitch Singer was named Police Officer of the Year. <br /> • Officer Dustin Bengtson was named Traffic Safety Officer of the Year. <br /> • Deputy Director Dan Olson received a Life Saving Award. <br /> • Officer Ted Layton received a Special Commendation for an off duty arrest. <br /> • Officer Matt Voeller received a Special Commendation for his work on the Oak Grove <br /> shooting. <br /> • Gary Sykes, Tom Griffin and Troy Hyland received the Veterans Service Pin. <br /> • Aaron Slack received a Public Safety pin for becoming a Fire Fighter in addition to a Police <br /> Officer. <br /> • All members of the Criminal Investigative Section (Gary Sykes, Mitch Singer and Mike <br /> Lochen) received Letters of Commendation for their investigative work in 2010. <br /> Council Liaison <br /> Council Report <br /> Council Representative Samuelson noted Stuart Co. passed at the last Council meeting to <br /> proceed with building 124 apartments in the NW Quadrant. <br /> The Family Service Center held their Fitness and Wellness Expo on January 8th; turn out for this <br /> year's event was fabulous. <br />
