-2-
Breuer commented that an e-mail was sent regarding adding egg addling for the
agenda tonight. She handed out the information that was in the e-mail.
Chair Norton read the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission
recommendation from the last meeting.
Breuer commented that she did the following in regards to the egg addling:
• Met with Howard Goldman of the local Humane Society.
• Howard Goldman will find volunteers.
• Put egg addling on February 8th Council agenda.
• Contacted Dr. Hadidian to see when he would be available to do this
training. The training will be March 5 or March 12.
• Charlie LeFevere, City Attorney was contacted for language clarification
(i.e. land outside public waters). He suggested Breuer come back to the
Commission and ask the Commission exactly what it is that you want.
Breuer stated she also learned that the DNR owns all the water. The City
does not. Charlie will help write this so it can go to Council.
Breuer stated she would like to do the egg addling at Brightwood Hills Golf
Course . If we have more volunteers than are needed for the Golf Course,
Veterans and Innsbruck Parks could be done. Hansen may be another Park to
consider for the addling.
If the Commission just wants to do public land, then we could not do some of the
sites we have done in the past such as Pike Lake, Poplar, Long Lake and Forest
Dale Road.
Weber asked if we just remove the words "from outside open space waters". That
seems to be the controversial piece.
Breuer stated that about every 3 or 4 years there are enough geese at the golf
course to do a round up. She does not believe there will be enough geese for that
to happen this year.
Breuer stated we probably would not take more than 8 volunteers the first year.
The maximum we would need to do the golf course would be 9 volunteers.
MOTION BY JERED WEBER, SECONDED BY JEANNE FRISCHMAN, TO
KEEP THE SAME MOTION MADE IN DECEMBER EXCEPT REMOVE THE
WORDS "AND LAND OUTSIDE OPEN SPACE WATERS"FROM THE
FIRST BULLET. MOTION CARRIED.
The motion now reads as follows:
THAT WE CONTINUE THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON GOOSE
MANAGEMENT PROGRAM AS IS WITH THE FOLLOWING
ADDENDUMS:
