Old Hwy. 8 Sidewalk Trail
• Where 1st Ave sidewalk meets Old Hwy 8 the plan is to put in a 5 ft.
concrete sidewalk with a 5 ft. boulevard between the back of the curb as
well as replacing the entry aprons to each of the businesses.
• On the other side it picks up from where 1st Ave comes into Old Hwy. 8
and heads all the way up to Hwy. 96. There is an existing trail system on
the west side but the current proposal is to add an 8 ft. bituminous pathway
with at least a 6 ft. boulevard, but maybe extend up to 8 and 10 ft. as it goes
further north. There is an anticipated right hand turn lane at a future date.
Hansen Park Parking Lot (West side)
• The existing bituminous path will be removed and replaced including the
path to the playground and to the neighborhood center.
• There will be some changes to the southern end of the parking lot.
• The money is not coming from the Pavement Management Plan, but rather
the storm water fund. Environmentally we are spending tens of thousands
of dollars to improve our watersheds. Overall it will be a good thing. This
is the first year for the Pavement Management Plan and each project you
see, the pavement is at least 30 years old.
Silver Oaks Tennis Court
• It was the desire to move more to the east. This would provide more access
to the parking lot and maybe more to the existing field. The Watershed will
again be involved.
• Vermont hard court and trial will get an overlay.
These plans will be bid in August. It will go for Council approval on July 26.
This contract will include the New Brighton Community Center parking lot.
The completion date is set for October 31 for all the projects. Some of the
projects may need to be completed next year because of the State shutdown.
The cost of the parking lot and the Pavement Management portions of the plan
is expected to be around $300,000. It is significant; a great investment to the
community.
There was discussion about the new Hansen trail and the water issue on the
trail which is believed to be draining better than the previous trail. The
grading was not done properly and had to be regarded.
There was also discussion about having a bike route on Stinson to 14th Street
or on Rice Creek Road so that we could complete the bike route from Fridley
to Long Lake Park. Ramsey County or Anoka County would need to be
involved, depending on the route chosen to complete the bike route.
-3-
