- 2 -
C. Vermont Park - Shade Structure
Breuer showed the Commissioners two different options for the Vermont
shade structure; one was a fabric canopy and one was wooden. The
canopy would come down during the winter season. There would be cost
in taking down and putting up the canopy. It would take 2 guys, 2 hours
(about$240 hours per year). Some other communities have these
canopies, like Eagan, Apple Valley. They use them in their water park
areas and a few have been added in their parks. The Commissioners felt
that the wooden structure, which is the same one that is at Hansen Park,
would be more permanent. It may be more expensive initially, but it would
last much longer than the fabric option. The Commissioners felt the wood
is richer looking. The Commission guessed that the roof on the wooden
structure would need to be replaced about every 20 years.
Frischman said that her concern for the fabric ones is vandalism. She also,
expressed concern about wind and storms. Breuer commented that both of
the cities she contacted that had the fabric structures, did not have any
problems with them during storms.
Breuer stated the following information will be gathered for the
Commission for an upcoming meeting on this subject.
• Man power needed
• Life span of both
• Warranty
• Sizes (of roof) and price quotes should be for the same size
structure for fabric and wood. Breuer was not sure she can
compare apples to apples on the size.
• Mold/Mildew
This item will come back to the Commission in January or February,
2012.
The park shelter at Vermont will not come down until we know what will
go in its place.
D. New Brighton Exchange - Schematics
Breuer stated at the September meeting there was some discussion about
what was happening at the New Brighton Exchange. Schematics were
available of what has already been discussed for the four different parks.
Funding is the major issue. The four parks totaled about 4 million dollars
and that did not include the public art which was estimated at about
$700,000.
