connecting in front of the hotel on Old Hwy 8 and trying to make it
look as nice as feasible.
• The sidewalk in front of the hotel is what Grant proposed to use.
• Grant previously stated that the only thing on the schedule now is the
sidewalk out in front of the NBCC.
• Grant also stated at an earlier meeting the trail would go on the east of
Old Hwy. 8 and go all the way to Hwy. 96. We should also have the
trail cross Old Hwy. 8 to connect with the park trail in Long Lake
Regional Park.
• The only trail on Old Hwy. 8 is on the west side.
• The majority of the people using the trail will come from Long Lake
Regional Park and then go across I-35W bridge to the Arden Hills trail
along Hwy. 96. We should also show the trail on the east side.
• There is a trail on the west side of Old Hwy. 8. It goes down Old Hwy.
8 from Applewood Pointe and then down into Long Lake Regional
Park.
• The Strategic Plan shows the proposed trails.
• The trial is 10 feet on the south side and 16 feet on the other side.
• On the east side of Hwy. 10 it is a nice asphalt trail and about 10 ft.
wide. It would be nice to find a way to connect the New Brighton side
with the 10 feet trail that is on the south side of Hwy. 96 in Arden
Hills. It looks like, at Round Lake Blvd., on the west side, it appears it
is set up for the trail, they just didn't draw the trail in. It appears they
are planning to continue the trail on; we just need to let them know
what we would like to do.
• It should also be considered what the plans are for the bridge going
over 694 and also what side the trail would be on. Should the
Commission propose trails on the east and west side of Old Hwy. 8?
• Should the focus be here because if they end up putting the stadium in
Arden Hills, all the plans could change. It may have to change.
• The Commission needs to figure out what we want on the New
Brighton side with the development going on.
• PREC should make our focus formal by making a recommendation to
New Brighton City Council and it comes from our Council to
MNDOT or Ramsey County, Arden Hills, at least they will be aware
that New Brighton is an active participant in all this.
• The Hwy. 96 at I-35W is partially a federally funded project.
MOTION BY FRISCHMAN, SECONDED BY WEBER, TO
RECOMMEND TO THE NEW BRIGHTON CITY COUNCIL TO
REQUEST A MUTI-USE TRAIL THAT WOULD BE INCLUSIVE
OF THE AREA IN NEW BRIGHTON STARTING ON THE WEST
SIDE OF OLD HWY. 8, WITH A PEDESTRIAN CROSS WALK
ACROSS OLD HWY. 8 ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF HWY. 96
TAKING US ALL THE WAY ACROSS I-35W AND CONNECTING
INTO THE CURRENTLY PROPOSED MULTI-USE TRAIL
SYSTEM THAT IS ON THE MAP AT ROUND LAKE BLVD.
3
