MOTION CARRIED.
• If we are going to put any trail on the east side of Old Hwy. 8, that we
should tie that in with it as well.
• This formal recommendation will be made to the New Brighton City
Council.
• This will be a nice way to connect New Brighton with what is going
on in Arden Hills.
• This will connect New Brighton with communities on the east side of
I-35W including the northeast such as Hugo.
• The Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission should find out
what is happening with the bridge going over 694 so we can include
that in the recommendation.
• The Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission said they recall
that there was a request for federal funding on the 694 bridge.
• Consider requesting of the City Council a trail on the east side of Old
Hwy. 8 to connect with the old trail and make sure it is included on the
bridge.
• If you follow Old Hwy 8 down to County Road E, you get hooked up
to the Roseville trail system. That would make sense to connect it to
Roseville and to Arden Hills. Eventually it will connect into the
pathway to Northeast Minneapolis (by Hwy. 88).
• For future planning it would be good to figure out plans for the bridge
that goes over I-35W at County Road E2 to tie in with the Arden Hills
trail. Arden Hills just redid the trail on the south side across from the
old library. It is a really nice trail. It goes all the way over to Old
Snelling. It would be good to have that in future plans if they ever redo
the County Road E2 bridge over I-35W.
• Perhaps we should have a prioritized list of what this Commission
thinks is important.
• The Commission wanted to see the trail on Old Hwy. 8 down to 5th
Ave./10th Street continue on the east side. This would make the most
sense, especially with the proposed sidewalk in front of the New
Brighton Community Center.
• Commissioners wanted copies of current maps that they can draw on
and show areas they would like to see additions or improvements.
• Right now we have a sidewalk where the map is showing a proposed
sidewalk. Is it the same type and size as what we just proposed?
• The sidewalk that is there is a concrete one about 6 ft.
• It would be in our best interest to keep what is proposed on the east
side of Old Hwy. 8 and put in a multi-use asphalt trail all the way over
1-694 to the New Brighton Community Center. So that it ties in with
the trail that is on Hwy. 96. We want to make sure it also connects to
Long Lake Regional Park.
• The trail in front of the New Brighton Community Center will be
either 8 or 9 feet and will be concrete.
4
