NIA City of <br /> 44INEW <br /> H ON <br /> the city that works for you <br /> Council Worksession <br /> February 14, 2012 <br /> Present: Mayor Dave Jacobsen <br /> Councilmember Char Samuelson <br /> Councilmember Mary Burg <br /> Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br /> Councilmember Gina Bauman <br /> Absent: None <br /> Staff in Attendance: <br /> City Manager Dean Lotter <br /> Director of Parks & Recreation Sandy Breuer <br /> Director of Public Works Grant Wyffels <br /> Others in Attendance: <br /> The meeting was called to order at 5:30 PM. <br /> EAB (Emerald Ash Borer): <br /> Director of Parks &Recreation Sandy Breuer gave a brief statement and history of the treatment of the Emerald <br /> Ash Borer and asked the Council and the Mayor to consider. <br /> Option 1: Stick with the Council adopted plan from 2010; inject/treat all the trees in 2012 <br /> (753 trees: 597 blvd/156 park. <br /> Option 2: Inject/treat only the boulevard trees (597). <br /> Option 3: Treat any tree 18.1" or larger. This would result in treating 310 trees (285 blvd, <br /> 26 park trees that range in that category). <br /> Option 4: Inject/treat 1/2 the trees treated in 2010 (377); above plus 67 trees. <br /> Option 5: No treatment and hold off for inject/treatment in 2013. <br /> Director Breuer provided Council a financial report regarding the treatment of these trees. For a full treatment, <br /> the approximate cost would be about $72,000.00. Director Parks & Recreation Breuer also stated that this <br /> project would be funded through the Community Investment Fund, which was a Council decision made in 2010. <br /> After much discussion, Council made a decision to go with Option 4,which is to treat half the trees in 2012 and <br /> the other half in 2013, which will spread the cost over the two years. Director Breuer will put this item on <br /> Council Consent Agenda. <br /> Vermont Park Shelter: <br /> Director of Parks & Recreation Breuer gave a brief history of the Vermont Park Shelter. This project came to <br /> Council for a decision to demolish the Vermont Park Shelter at the same time as the house at 901 1 lth Avenue <br /> (June 14,2011). At their July 13th, 2011 the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission(PREC) <br /> discussed viewing the shelter on their park tour on Sept. 7th. On October 5, 2011 PREC held a discussion on <br /> 1 <br />
