New Brighton Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission 3 <br /> Minutes of January 7, 1998 <br /> • Is there enough money in the escrow account for two courts? <br /> • * Recently dealt with drainage problem, will any of the park changes <br /> cause more drainage problem? <br /> • Think we should stick to original plan; we were promised two <br /> tennis courts, would like to see two put in. <br /> • Disagreed with above comment, want best usage of the park, <br /> suggested putting tennis court in hard court area <br /> • Suggest putting in two courts <br /> • Would like to see the tennis court area staked out <br /> • Concern expressed about soccer field being taken out, would like <br /> an alternative for the players <br /> • It should be studied more carefully how much use and who would <br /> use tennis court <br /> Park Commission and staff comments and discussion: <br /> It was stated that tennis will serve people on nice weather days and <br /> the soccer and ballfield will be used four nights a week. <br /> • Anderson received four calls from residents who did not want the <br /> ballfield or soccer area taken out <br /> • Anderson said the parking problem will remain. We could add <br /> parking for about 15 cars if we angled into Oakwood, however this <br /> • is dangerous because people will be backing out into traffic. Even <br /> if we add parking for 15 cars it will still remain a problem. <br /> • The lower portion of the park is used for soccer and it has been <br /> flooded for skating. <br /> An engineering study and topo were not done before the last Silver <br /> Oak meeting <br /> 2' The nearest courts to the Silver Oak area would be Hansen and <br /> Totem Pole <br /> • Tennis court(s) would not be lighted <br /> The Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission will hear <br /> resident concerns, make a decision and forwarded recommendation <br /> to the City Council. The City Council will make the final decision. <br /> MOTION BY HEINRICH TO MAKE A GRASS INFIELD ON THE <br /> EXISTING BALLFIELD ON THE UPPER PORTION OF THE PARK <br /> WITH NO TENNIS COURT ON UPPER PORTION. MOTION DIED <br /> FOR LACK OF A SECOND. <br /> • It was stated that two courts on the lower portion could not be done <br /> without extensive excavating. One court will fit nicely. <br /> ▪ Would like to utilize this park to the maximum and make a win, win <br /> situation <br /> • Could not put in a tennis court and ice rink on the lower portion of <br /> 41110 the park <br />
