New Brighton Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission 4
Minutes of January 7, 1998
MOTION BY HEINRICH, SECONDED BY SYKES TO LEAVE THE
BASEBALL FIELD THE WAY IT IS.
• Discussion included considering lining of the outfield area of
ballfield for soccer players and removing the bituminous path which
was not in good condition, this would give a little more room for
soccer.
MOTION CARRIED.
`0' It was suggested that one tennis court be put at Silver Oak and one
at Innsbruck
4' The money in escrow was enough to build one tennis court and
have a little extra. There was not money for two courts in the same
year.
If drainage is a problem, that is one of the stipulations that will have
to be noted when changes are made to Silver Oak Park so the
drainage problem does not get worse.
It was commented that the suggestion of putting the tennis court on
the existing hardcourt area would not work because of lack of space
MOTION BY HEINRICH, SECONDED BY SYKES, TO PUT ONE
TENNIS COURT IN AT SILVER OAK PARK ON THE LOWER
PORTION AND ONE IN ANOTHER PARK IN THE PARK SYSTEM.
Discussion:
If two courts were to be put in at Silver Oak, they could not go in
until 1999 - it would be delayed at least one year
• No deadline to have tennis court in, however the money is losing
value as each year passes
Tennis court area could be staked out at the park site.
MOTION BY KINZIE, SECONDED BY SYKES, TO CHANGE THE
ORIGINAL MOTION TO READ:
MOTION BY HEINRICH, SECONDED BY SYKES, TO PUT AT
LEAST ONE AND POSSIBLY TWO TENNIS COURTS AT SILVER
OAK PARK ON THE LOWER PORTION OR ONE COURT AT SILVER
OAK AND ONE AT ANOTHER PARK IN THE PARK SYSTEM.
MOTION CARRIED.
0' The Engineers will stake out the tenths court at the park site
Anderson said he will make sure there are two nights of baseball
and two nights of soccer at Silver Oak (so baseball does not have
exclusive use of the ballfield area)
0' Anderson stated he will talk to the Engineers but from what he
understands now he is 90% sure his recommendation will be for
only one tennis court at Silver Oak Park
It was expressed that there were bad feelings that the people in this
area were promised two courts and now they are unable to get both
I
