Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission Minutes 5 June 6, 1996 40 Koubsky asked Maurie if the project could be revised--increase the level of funds that were spent on improving the habitat and less on the walkway. Maurie stated we should confine ourselves to increasing the scope of the project not the focus. Kinzie and Brewer reiterated it would definitely distinguish New Brighton from other cities to proceed with this project. Tom Trevorrow made a motion to recommend $10,000 in city cash, $15,000 in cash or donation to match a$25,000 DNR grant. Maurie commented how City of New Brighton should not ask for less than the initial amount of the original grant proposed--$50,000. More discussion ensued with Trevorrow, Brewer, Koubsky and Wendt talking about scaling down the project so that the Commission has sufficient time to come up with the rest of the money to begin the project. BREWER THEN MADE A MOTION TO UTILIZE THE $50,000 GRANT AS IS WITH THE CITY RESPONSIBLE FOR$25,000 TO MATCH. • THE MOTION WAS APPROVED EIGHT TO THREE. At this time Representative Arlyn Gunderman excused himself as he had another meeting he had to attend--Cable Commission. (9:00 pm). Koubsky inquired if the City Council will be made aware of how the vote was reached. Maurie responded that there is nothing stopping anyone from reporting how they voted regarding the DNR grant. At this point in the meeting, Katherine Brewer excused herself from the meeting as it was getting late and she was scheduled to be at another meeting. (9:30 pm.) D. Dog Droppings at Hansen Park Dennis Guilden brought up a suggestion regarding the dog droppings at Hansen Park. He maintained the Jaycees would pick up the cost of supplying the posts and plastic bag containers,but asked Maurie if Parks and Recreation Dept. would continue their efforts to replenish the bag supply.
