Agenda Section: VI I I-3
CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON
Report Number: 96-228
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
Report Date: 10/3/96
DESCRIPTION: SOCCER FACILITY AT DRIFTWOOD PARK
DEPT. HEAD'S APPROVAL: N/A
MANAGER'S REVIEW/RECOMMENDATION:
No comments to supplement this report Comments below/attached .,
EXPLANATION/SUMMARY (attach supplemental sheets as necessary):
The Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission considered the proposal (see attachment) to remove an
adult softball field at Driftwood Park and replace it with a soccer field. The commission recommends that the
City convert Driftwood to a soccer field and further that the City commit $3,000.00 from the Innsbruck Park
development budget to cover the 1996 cost. The commission reasoned that the Driftwood option is the least
expensive option that has been considered to date and that the Soccer Association has arranged to have the
:work done at no cost to the City.
The commission also recommended that the 1997 CIP include a $22,000.00 allocation to develop an irrigated
regulation size field at Driftwood Park.
Recommendation
To authorize staff to convert the adult softball field at Driftwood Park to a soccer field in the fall of 1996 at a
cost not to exceed $3,000.00.
Maurice H. Anderson
Director of Parks and Recreation
•
