Mayor Jacobsen asked if the intent is to start building the single family homes, if so could there be any <br /> difficulties selling townhomes in the future. Mr. Cermak stated that it will likely help in sale of townhomes to <br /> have single family development underway. <br /> Councilmember Bauman stated that she prefers single family homes over townhomes, and likes the idea of <br /> attracting families with children to New Brighton. The comment was made that the New Brighton location has <br /> excellent amenities that will likely draw interest. <br /> Councilmember Burg questioned the reason for building the townhomes if the demand has decreased. Mr. <br /> Peterson explained that the 34 townhomes fit into the original plan for the New Brighton Exchange, and would <br /> be built in a few years, allowing the community to get established. <br /> Councilmember Samuelson questioned if one level townhomes will be offered? Mr. Peterson stated that a one <br /> level option is available in a single family home. <br /> Director Fernelius commented that the City did receive grant funding from the Met council, which required an <br /> affordability component; and the townhomes would likely satisfy that requirement. <br /> The site plan was reviewed; proposed lots are 60' wide, approximately 4.5 lots per acre. Councilmember <br /> Bauman asked if there are a variety of models. Mr. Cermak reported there are eight designs being offered. <br /> City Manager Lotter asked for Council's direction. Mayor Jacobsen stated that he would like city staff to <br /> continue working with Pulte Homes, noting Pulte has a sterling reputation. Councilmember Burg commented <br /> that although they were unable to discuss the financial component of the project, the proposed project fits well <br /> into the City's financial plan. <br /> The worksession adjourned at 6:30 pm. <br /> 2 <br />
