Two corrections to the April minutes were noted and
will be made. The April meeting minutes were approved.
Public Hearing/Presentations
A. 12t" Street NW/Highview Drive
Mr. Grant Wyffels, Director of Public Works, reviewed the Traffic Study report for the
12thintersection of 12Street NW and Highview Drive. Mr. Wyffels' recommendation is that yield
signs be placed on the north and south legs of the intersection of Highview Drive and 12th Street
NW. He stated this would"sign the right-of-way" for drivers.
Commissioner Donohue asked if weather was a factor in the two reported traffic accidents. Mr.
Wyffels did not have that information. Commissioner Lamp noted there is a large tree at this
intersection with branches hanging low and felt the sight lines would be improved if these were
trimmed.
Ms. Margaret Larson, 1101 Highview Drive, stated this is a dangerous spot and a dangerous
corner. There are a lot of younger families in this area now. Mr. Don Roberts, 1213 Highview
Drive, stated there is also a lot of human traffic; a lot of walkers, a lot of bikers. He wanted to
thank Mr. Wyffels and the commission for the fine work done on the signage on Palmer Drive.
Commissioner Benke would endorse the minor tree trimming and asked if the yield signs would
be better if placed on 12th Street NW. Mr. Wyffels felt traffic on 12th Street NW would most
times be going slower so stands by his decision to assign the right of way to Highview Drive.
Commissioner Hollimon made a motion to accept the recommendation of Mr. Grant Wyffels
with the addition to trim the trees at this intersection; Commissioner Donohue seconded. Motion
carried.
