meetings. Council has a retreat scheduled for January 19th. Priorities will be set for 2013. In 2013 there will be two Council positions and a Mayor position open. He also commented that we are still short people for this Commission. B. Chair Updates Chair Frischman did not have any updates, but opened it up for the Commission to discuss a formal recommendation to Public Works as it relates to the Silver Lake Road water main/sidewalk improvement and the bridge on Highway 8 as discussed earlier in the meeting. Commissioner Fields stated he suggests the Commissioners go out and look at the two sites and then discuss it at the February meeting. The sites to look at would be the Hwy. 8 railroad bridge (south of County Road E on Old Hwy 8) and the Silver Lake Road section of sidewalk, from Silver Lane to Windsor Lane. It was suggested a priority list be created at the February meeting. Director Breuer inquired if the Commission was interested in staff giving presentations again this year as they did last year. The Commission agreed to make a decision on staff presentations at the February meeting. The Commission briefly discussed the possibility of meeting at different locations; i.e. the Brightwood Hills Clubhouse and the park neighborhood center buildings. Kevin with CTV Cable Company stated he believes it would be possible in most locations if power point projector or internet connections are not needed. Councilmember Jacobsen suggested creating a visual way (possibly video) of the things that are new or renovated; like showing a video of the new carpet and updated equipment or rooms. Director Breuer stated staff has been featured on CTV explaining their programs or information about programs and events in our department. The Parks and Recreation Department could connect with CTV and do more things as suggested by Councilmember Jacobsen. C. Commission Reports on Parks Lundberg: Driftwood/Hansen Commissioner Lundberg stated she has seen beavers at Hansen. She counted about 20 trees that have been taken down just in one area. Commissioner Fields also commented that he has seen them and they are taking out the small brush along the creek and some larger trees. This is something we probably want to monitor so that the beavers do not do too much damage to the trees. Director Breuer also stated that there have been issues with beavers at Pike Lake and Long Lake. The DNR has been contacted. Commissioner Lundberg commented that it looks like another layer of water is needed on the pleasure rink. There is an area on the pleasure rink where woodchips are poking through the ice. The hockey rink looks great. No report on Driftwood. - 4 -
