Commissioner Frischman felt that the goal of the trails is to keep the
connectivity so that trails do not just end and then start up again in
another community.
Commissioner Frischman stated it would be nice to make it wider so
that it would match the existing sidewalk (5 foot) that is there and also
meet ADA standards.
The final PREC recommendation:
Old HWY 8 — overpass bridge
Match the current sidewalk (not sure if it is 5 or 6 foot due to snow
coverage) leading up to the bridge underpass. Lower the sidewalk
down (beneath the underpass) to existing grade of sidewalk or as
close to it as possible.
All PREC members were in favor of the above recommendations
regarding the Old Hwy 8 trestle bridge.
b. Silver Lake Road Sidewalk / Connections
The discussion relates to the portion of the sidewalk that is north of
Silver Lane on the east side of Silver Lake Road heading north toward
County Road E. There was prior discussion as to whether the sidewalk
would be removed and the utilities buried since they will be replacing
the water main in that area. Also, a consideration was whether the path
could be moved further from the street and widened and leave the light
pole where it is and have a path east of the light pole. Also, because
Silverwood Park is in close proximity, perhaps St. Anthony would be
involved or the County and work could be done on the west side
sidewalk as well. Commissioner Lundberg felt that it may be a better
choice to put the heavier bike and pedestrian traffic on the west side,
because there are fewer driveways and less traffic issues.
Commissioner Kunesh-Podein stated that further north, the sidewalk is
broken and uneven from roots coming up. Also there are bushes that
are pushing up the sidewalk and some bushes that are infringing on
the sidewalk so that you have to walk around them.
Commissioner Fields inquired if there was an easement by the first
house across from the barber shop to leave the light pole there and
move the sidewalk east? This is a County Road. Usually City Streets
have 14 ft easement from the back of the curb. This could impact some
residents.
Director Breuer noted that on the east side, the sidewalk continues
north of County Road E. On the west side, the sidewalk ends at
County Road E. If the east side sidewalk were removed, pedestrians
would need to cross Silver Lake Road at County Road E.
Commissioner Fields stated the sidewalk on the east side has a light
by Windsor Green. If pedestrians/bikers wanted to get to Silverwood
Park, they could cross there and then use the west side sidewalk if
they were going to Silverwood Park.
2
