Parks Superintendent Chris Wolla felt the light pole could be moved to
the east.
Commissioner Fields stated when Public Works replaces the water
main they were considering just going east with the sidewalk and not
disturbing the current sidewalk. But if we are there, we could make it
more user-friendly.
The final PREC recommendations:
Silver Lane Road Sidewalk issue (East side)
Bury utilities and relocate current street lights, to remove all sidewalk
obstructions. Expand sidewalk to match entire sidewalk moving north
and south through New Brighton on Silver Lake Road.
All PREC members were in favor of the above recommendations
regarding the Silver Lake Road sidewalk.
c. Discussion on Staff Reports in 2013
Director Breuer asked the Commission for direction on 2013 staff
reports.
Director Breuer reminded PREC that Council directed PREC to study
and recommend park features for the New Brighton Exchange Park.
Director Breuer said that in 2007 Council authorized this commission to
study the New Brighton Exchange (previously called Northwest
Quadrant). The City hired Bonestro (now called Stantec) to do a detail
study. A Task Force of community members, city and commission
members was formed. Chair Frischman served on that committee.
Chair Frischman stated that while on the Task Force it was super
beneficial to be able to call in staff members to answer questions.
Chair Frischman thought the Commission should be cautious about
having a staff presentation at every meeting if we will be pulling staff in
at different times during this park planning process.
Director Breuer summarized by stating that 2013 staff reports will not
be prepared unless otherwise directed.
VII. New Business
a. Council Directed PREC to Study and Recommend Park Features for
the New Brighton Exchange Parks
The focus will be on the north park (west side) with the central park
being passive right now with grass and medians and areas that are
being mowed. The north park is 9.23 acres. Central park is 1 .96 acres.
South is 2.16 acres.
Director Breuer stated that for the March meeting, she could bring all
the concept designs and previous history. At the March meeting the
Commission can request more information on specific items and the
Department can gather that for the April meeting.
3
