• Freedom Park — rinks and softball field
• Driftwood - soccer field
• Hansen - ice rinks and softball fields #1 , #2, #3 and #4
• Hidden Oaks — soccer field
• Innsbruck — soccer field
• Meadow Wood — soccer field
• Silver Oaks — soccer and T-ball field
• Sunny Square — softball field
• Totem Pole — baseball field
• Vermont — soccer field
• Veterans — softball field
Field Usage Trends
• Adult softball enrollments are remaining stable.
• Youth soccer enrollments declined in 2009-2011 and are now starting to
increase.
• Youth T-ball, coaches pitch and softball enrollments are remaining stable.
• Rental requests at Driftwood were down in 2011 and 2012 from adult
soccer groups.
• Request received to start up adult kickball leagues.
Field Usage Limitations
• Hansen #3, Hansen #4 — Uneven playing surfaces and sinking field result
in player complaints and injuries.
• We are unable to light additional adult softball fields due to soil concerns
and resident housing considerations.
• Hansen #4 — Inadequate space between home plate and backstop.
• Hansen #4, Sunny Square — Cars in parking lot adjacent to field get hit
with softballs.
• Silver Oaks — Dry fields and lack of wind blocks cause dust and debris
concerns.
• Silver Oaks — Field located on top of the hill is not accessible.
Future Field Needs
• Lighted adult softball fields, 300-325' length with bleachers, adjacent
playground and adequate parking.
The following items were points of discussion:
• Parks Superintendent, Chris Wolla, stated the middle of Hansen #3 keeps
sinking. Dirt has been brought in many times to fill the hole, but the hole
keeps returning. A firm took soil borings and stated you would have to go
down 18 feet, put fabric down and bring in fill to fix the current issue.
• A Commissioner asked Recreation Supervisor, Pat Tuma where she
would put a softball field if she were to put a softball field in New Brighton?
Pat responded saying that if New Brighton Exchange had some space,
that would be a nice place. New Brighton is pretty much landlocked so
there is not a lot of space to put a field. Concerns are: Is there ample
parking, would it fit with the use at New Brighton Exchange?
2
