litty of Report Number 13-165 <br /> Agenda Section VI-12 <br /> BRIGHTON Council Meeting Date July 9,2013 <br /> the city that works for you <br /> REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDERATION OF BIDS AND AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR <br /> PROJECT 13-2A, 2013 SEAL COATING <br /> DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: w' <br /> CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: A <br /> No comments to supplement this report r U Comments attached <br /> Recommendation: Accept the bids for Project 13-2A, 2013 Seal Coating, and award a contract to the low bidder, <br /> Pearson Brothers Inc. in the amount of$40,668.08. <br /> Legislative History: Seal coating is part of the annual street maintenance program which also includes concrete <br /> curb and gutter repair, street striping, and mill and overlays. <br /> Financial Impact: Seal coating is programmed into and paid for from Fund 422,Contract Maintenance. <br /> Explanation: Streets are seal coated at 5 years after their construction or reconstruction. This year, there are 1.51 <br /> miles of streets to be seal coated as well as the Public Safety Impound Parking Lot. Due to the recent failure of <br /> pavement surfaces on streets older than 13 years, we have omitted the 13-year old seal coat streets from the project <br /> corridor. The 13-year old streets will still receive crack repair/fill treatments; however staff will remove those age <br /> of streets from the seal coal project until more research can be conducted to determine the positive benefits. <br /> Attached to this report is a copy of the informational letter and project map, which will be mailed to residents in the <br /> seal coating areas. <br /> Bids for Project 13-2A, 2013 Street Seal Coating were opened by Staff at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday,July 2, 2013. The <br /> following bids were received: <br /> Pearson Brothers,Inc. =$40,668.08 <br /> Allied Blacktop Company =$42,103.39 <br /> Pearson Brothers Inc. has done seal coating for the City in the past and has done a good job. Staff recommends the <br /> 2013 Seal Coating be awarded to Pearson Brothers Inc. <br /> The cost of seal coating has risen over the years because of increases in the price of oil.
