Council Liaison Strub commented he thought the project related to a multi-
million dollar grant that New Brighton and St. Anthony received from the
Rice Creek Watershed District. He heard they will redo the damn on the
north end of Hansen Park. There will be a lot of flood mitigation.
Sunny Square/Veterans: CM Liaison Strub
Vets looks wonderful because there are newly planted trees, thanks to
students as well as private citizens.
Sunny Square was very soggy. There was an active softball game. The
playground was being used. The sidewalk around the building, in the
back, had some bricks broken off. A couple bricks were put in the fire pit.
Parks Superintendent, Chris Wolla, stated that in February there was
vandalism; a fire in the bathroom. A contractor is working on repairing the
building. The
hiking group has grown in numbers.
• Goose nest searching has begun at Brightwood Hills, Poplar Lake
Area, Long Lake, Veterans and the Community Center. 7 Eggs
have been addled at Lakeside Homes near Poplar Lake.
• Arbor Day was a success at Veterans Park with 46 St. John's 4t"
graders to help plant. An additional 15 residents showed up to help.
We also hold a tree sale in conjunction with Ramsey County. We
had 5 trees and one shrub donated this year through the tree sale.
There were photos in the Sun Focus.
• This spring a Pike Lake resident stated they had a large fish kill that
was washing up by their property. The DNR stated let nature take
its course, but the residents stated the stench was already starting.
The City provided a 10 yard dumpster and they had it about 8 yards
full of dead fish. The City garbage company took care of the
disposal stating it was recyclable material and it will be turned into
