Call to Order A park tour was given from 4:00 p.m. — 8:15 p.m. The meeting was called to order at 8:45 p.m. by Chair Frischman Roll Call Members Present: Commissioners Brunell, Cook, Eischen, Fields (arrived 5:45 p.m.), Frischman, Jones, Kunesh- Podein, Lundberg (present from 4- 7p.m.) and Council Liaison Strub Members Absent: Commissioner Parker Also Present: Sandy Breuer, Director of Parks and Recreation; Chris Wolla, Parks Superintendent, Jason Hicks, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, Ken Manthis, Golf Operations Manager. III. Minutes of May 7, 2014 MOTION BY COMMISSIONER FIELDS, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER KUNESH- PODEIN, TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS SUBMITTED. MOTION CARRIED. IV. Correspondence None V. Old Business None VII. New Business a. Sunny Square Park Neighborhood Petition Chair Frischman commented that there is a petition from residents near Sunny Square to keep hockey boards up and allow the rink to be used in the winter through neighborhood volunteers. Director Breuer stated the petition was asking that the City does not remove the hockey boards as planned. The City has not flooded Sunny Square since around 2006 or 2007. The petition states that there could be much use at that rink, especially after school. Volunteers would like to maintain and flood the rink. In a memo prepared by Parks and Recreation Staff, estimated costs were shown separately for materials /maintenance needed to reopen and maintain the rink and the staff costs. The hockey boards will not be removed this summer until a decision is made on this item. Chair Frischman stated the Commissioners had just finished a park tour and history was given as it related to each of the parks. Some decisions about parks were made. As we discuss closing rinks, one thing to ask is, is this where we want to spend money. 1
