Consider Resolution
Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Burg to adopt a Resolution
wail nalNight
Accepting the 2015 National Night Out National 1st Place Award on behalf of the
residents of New Brighton.
City Manager Lotter reported Office Hamdorf would be presenting this item to the Council.
Officer Hamdorf reported on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 City of New Brighton participated in
National Night Out activities, coordinating over 130 parties involving approximately 10,000
residents. The 2015 National Night Out celebration included staff visiting each of these parties,
a donations drive to help those in need, and generous business donations including several
from Cub Foods, New Brighton among other things. Although National Night Out occurs on a
single day each year, the neighborhood building, staff/resident interactions, and resident
involvement occurs each and every day with National Night Out merely being a measuring
stick we can utilize to evaluate our everyday efforts in comparison to other communities
throughout the Country. For its efforts in 2015 the National Association of Town Watch
reviewed the City of New Brighton NNO award submission package and determined that out
of over 16,000 communities throughout the United States, the City of New Brighton was rated
as #1 for cities with a population of 15,000 to 50,000. Staff will be presenting the 2015
National Night Out 1 st Place Award to the Council for formal acceptance on behalf of all of
the residents of the City. He spoke to the value of the partnerships the department had with the
community.
Councilmember Jacobsen appreciated the City's sense of community year after year and looked forward to
celebrating National Night Out again with his neighbors in 2016.
Councilmember Burg reported the City's low crime rate may be due in part to the efforts that have been made
by the Public Safety Department in addition to the efforts made each year by residents on National Night Out
5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried
Consent Agenda
Consent Aeenda
1.Resolulionlhsig=ing
1.
