Another option for fitness at the NBCC is group fitness classes. Any City of New Brighton
employee can register for group fitness classes at a 20% discount. Classes usually meet 6-7
times per session and include Zumba, kickboxing, yoga and much more. For those enrolling in a
Health Wave membership, select group fitness classes are included and would not reauire an
additional payment.
Employment status must be verified prior to the 20% discount being accessed.
5.7 Employee Membership Status Upon Resignation or Termination
Benefitted Employees: If any benefitted employee, including full-time, regular part-time, paid -on-
call firefighters and elected officials have enrolled in an annual membership under the City of New
Brighton benefit and resigns, and is an employee in good standing, the membership will be
considered valid until the expiration date. All previous payments incurred for that membership will
not be refunded if the employee chooses not to continue using the facility.
If any benefitted employee, including full-time, regular part-time, paid -on-call firefighters and
elected officials have enrolled in an annual membership under the City of New Brighton benefit
and resigns or is terminated, and is an employee not in good standing, the City reserves the right
to voluntarily terminate the membership and flag the account as "cancelled." All previous
payments incurred for that membership will not be refunded.
Seasonal/Part-Time Employees: If any seasonal or part-time employee has purchased a
discounted employee NBCC membership and resigns or is terminated, the membership discount
will be discontinued and it is up to the former employee to continue their membership at the
regular rate, if they are an employee in good standing. If they are not an employee in good
standing, the City has the right to deny the former employee the opportunity to enroll as a regular
member_
Summary:
The recommended changes have been reviewed by the City's legal representation. If the
recommend changes are adopted by the City Council, the revisions to the Employee Handbook
will be officially implemented and adopted by the City on August 1, 2015. City staff will track
all of the approved changes by noting the date in each section of the employee handbook in
which changes have been adopted by the City Council. Information regarding the changes to the
Employee Handbook will be provided to all staff members.
Joe Hatch
Management Analyst/HR Specialist
7
