i �yof IN EWMGHTON the city that «Arks for you AGENDA SECTION: Consent REPORT DATE: July 22, 2015 MEETING DATE: July 28, 2015 REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDER AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE CARDIO EQUIPMENT FOR NEW BRIGHTON COMMUNITY CENTER DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: Sandy Breuer, Director of Parks and Recreation CITY MANAGER APPROVAL: No comments to supplement this report Comments attached Recommendation: To authorize staff to purchase equipment from Life Fitness and 2nd Wind Exercise Equipment to replace equipment currently used at NBCC. These purchases would be made through purchasing cooperatives - National Joint Powers Agreement (NJPA) and National Independent Health Club Association (NIHCA). The total purchase would be $41,413.91 and includes standard warranty, shipping and assembly. Staff met with representatives of two different fitness equipment vendors. The vendors each provided a review of the products they offer, tours of manufacturing plants and the opportunity to utilize different pieces of equipment. Ultimately, staff liked equipment from both vendors and believes having a mix of equipment will provide a better experience for NBCC members. Legislative History: Council annually approves the Non -Fleet Replacement Program as part of adopting the budget for each fiscal year. December 9, 2015 — Council adopted the 2015 Budget which included funding in the Non -Fleet Replacement Program to replace a LifeFitness Treadmill and the replacement of the Bikes, Elipticals, other cardio equipment. Funding approved in the budget included $7,700 for the LifeFitness treadmill and $58,900 for the cardio equipment. Financial Impact: Staff met with representatives from two different fitness equipment vendors. Each provided options of equipment that was similar in type, but had different features that distinguished their piece of equipment. Staff is recommending purchasing equipment from both vendors.
