CANIBUILDAFENCEINTHESHORELAND?
Yes, but there are some minor restricƟons for lakeshore owners or owners
abuƫng Rice Creek, including:

x A fence is prohibited within 25 feet of the OHWL of Jones, Long, Pike, and
Poplar Lakes and Rice Creek. A fence is prohibited within 75 feet of Rush
Lake. This is considered the Shore Impact Zone*.
x Between 25 feet Ͳ 50 feet of Jones, Long, Pike, Poplar Lakes and Rice Creek
and between 75 feet Ͳ 150 feet of Rush Lake a 3 1/2 foot fence is allowed but
it cannot be a solidͲsurface fence. Fences in this area must be seeͲthrough
(i.e. chain link, wrought iron, picket, etc.).
x Once the building setback is met, a 6 foot privacy fence is allowed.

The intent of these standards is to allow fences, but not unreasonably interͲ
fere with views from neighboring properƟes.

Any fencing that is intended for the conĮnement of animals must meet the
building setback (50 feet for Jones, Long, Pike, and Poplar Lakes and Rice Creek
and 150 feet for Rush Lake).

*See separate board to learn more about the Shore Impact Zone.
The above example does not apply to Rush Lake
