WHATISTHESHOREIMPACTZONE?
CANICUTDOWNATREE?
The proposed ordinance includes regulaƟons for the Shore Impact Zone. The Shore
Impact Zone is the land between the water’s edge and a distance of half the reͲ
quired building setback for that water body. The Shore Impact Zone consists as folͲ
lows:
ShoreImpactZone
Jones Lake 25 feet
Long Lake 25 feet
Pike Lake 25 feet
Poplar Lake 25 feet
Rush Lake 75 feet
Rice Creek 25 feet

Here’s what you need to know about the Shore Impact Zone:

x No fences or walls may be constructed/erected within the Shore Impact Zone.
x Clear cuƫng of vegetaƟon is NOT permiƩed but you may do limited clearing of
trees and shrubs, including cuƫng, pruning, and trimming of trees so as to provide
a view of the water and for the placement of stairways, liŌs, landings, and other
watercraŌ access items such as docks and liŌs.
x On Rice Creek only, exisƟng shading of the water surface must be preserved as
much as possible.
x Any vegetaƟon that is dead, diseased, posing a safety hazard, or is considered a
noxious weed under State law is exempt from the Shore Impact Zone rules and may
be removed. Examples of noxious weeds include thistle, buckthorn, loosestrife,
etc.
x A Shoreland AlternaƟon/Grading Permit is required to move more than 10 cubic
yards of material within the Shore Impact Zone (and 50 cubic yards outside of the
Shore Impact Zone). As an FYI, 10 cubic yards of material is approximately one
dump truck load of dirt.
