The driver, who only had a MN instruction permit, asked the Officers, “Why <br />are you being so mean?” Ms. Chevez Marin appeared to be under the influence of <br />alcoholic beverages and was placed under arrest. Officer Jeronimo Yanez from the St. <br />Anthony PD assisted with translating instructions for Ms. Chevez Marin who later tested <br />at .19 BAC on a breath test. Due to the high test result, she was booked on the enhanced <br />charges of DUI in the 3rd degree, a gross misdemeanor. CN 1600897. <br /> <br />On January 23rd at about 7:53 p.m. Officer Farmer was on patrol and initiated a traffic <br />stop in the area of the 2000 block of Old Hwy 8 NW on a Chevy Impala for having <br />illegal window tint. The driver pulled into the parking lot of the Skyline Motel and was <br />identified as Valorie Longville, 56 years of age from White Bear Lake. Officer Farmer <br />observed pieces of a green, leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana in the vehicle. <br />During a search, Officer Farmer located a small amount of suspected “crack” cocaine in a <br />backpack belonging to Ms. Longville. Ms. Longville was arrested for possession of a <br />controlled substance. CN 16001017. <br /> <br />On January 24th at about 12:37 a.m. Officer Farmer was on patrol southbound on Old <br />Hwy 8 NW near Mounds Ave when he observed a vehicle, a 2004 Chevy K15, with <br />obstructed license plates. The vehicle also was observed driving over a striped center <br />lane as it drove eastbound on Hwy 96. Officer Farmer stopped the vehicle and identified <br />the driver as Michael Nieland, 65 years of age from Coon Rapids. Mr. Nieland had “fast <br />and jerky” movements and rambled as he looked through his wallet for his driver’s <br />license. Mr. Nieland stated that he had just consumed “5 hour energy”. Mr. Nieland <br />was asked to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed. A Drug Recognition Expert, <br />Sgt. Spiess of the St. Anthony Police Department, conducted an evaluation which showed <br />indications of use of a stimulant. A search warrant was prepared by Sgt. Sypniewski and <br />blood was drawn from Mr. Nieland. He was booked at the Ramsey County Law <br />Enforcement Center on DUI in the 4th degree. CN 16001027. <br /> <br />Maplewood Police hosted the TZD Hi-Viz DWI Saturation on Saturday, January 16, <br />2016 from 7 P.M. to 3 A.M. Twenty overtime funded officers focused their efforts on <br />White Bear Ave and Hwy 36 that yielded the following <br />· 235 traffic stops <br />· 15 people arrested & taken to jail <br />· 11 DWI arrests <br />· 11 drivers cited for DAR or DAS <br />· 13 vehicles towed <br />Notes: Bitterly cold night with dangerous wind chills. MWPD officer arrested a juvenile <br />driver for Auto Theft after he fled on foot from a MSP trooper traffic stop. SPPD officer <br />recovered a stolen auto and arrested the driver for Auto Theft. SPPD officer arrested a <br />driver for Felony 1st Degree DWI that has a total of 14 DWI’s on record with 4 in the last <br />10 years <br /> <br />IV.
