11
VIII. HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

This section will review ongoing activities for homeland security and emergency
management. This includes the activities of the New Brighton Community Emergency
Response Teams (CERT).

On Tuesday, September 27th members of the Community Emergency Response Team
(CERT) conducted a tabletop exercise on establishing a family reunification center in the
event of a disaster. The training was led by CERT member Ginny Bjerke and provided
staff and volunteers with an excellent strategy for the future.

IX. TRAINING

This section will review the training activities of our Public Safety personnel for the
month.

On Saturday October 17th and Sunday October 18th the Fire Division command staff and
Sergeant Terry Nelson attended Enhanced Unified Incident Command Class presented by
the National Fire Academy at the Public Safety Center. The course was brought to our
agency free or charge by the NFA and provided staff with an opportunity to practice
using techniques they learned in class.
