13
On Monday, September 26th the Public Safety Commission held their monthly meeting
at the Allina Medical Transportation Mounds View base. Allina staff conducted a
presentation about the service level the City receives including dispatch operations and
field operations. To date Allina has responded to 1352 total calls in the City with an
average response time to emergent calls of 7:23.

Photo Credit: Council Member Brian Strub

Public Safety was asked to host and convene a meeting this week of School Resource
Officer (SRO) Supervisors from the three law enforcement agencies that collectively
provide SRO services to the Mounds View School. Assistant Superintendent John Ward
addressed the group about a variety of topics, including data privacy, lockdown
procedures, relationships with students and staff, the role of administration, and current
events impacting the educational environment. The School District will next be meeting
with the site-based SROs to discuss many of the same issues.

Police Officer Ian Craig and Acting Director of Public Safety Tony Paetznick attended
the inaugural kickoff of the Century College law enforcement mentoring program that
New Brighton was invited to participate in along with a handful of other east metro
suburban law enforcement agencies. Officer Craig will be paired with a Century College
law enforcement student during the academic year, meeting together regularly to prepare
the student for entry into a policing career. Acting Director Paetznick, along with Police
Chiefs from Lino Lakes and White Bear Lake, grilled a meal for the mentor program
participants. About a dozen police officer and student mentor pairs were established for
this pilot program. Consistent with the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing,
the mentorship is targeted using this recommendation from the first pillar of the report
that focused on building trust and legitimacy: “Law enforcement agencies should strive to
create a workforce that contains a broad range of diversity including race, gender,
language, life experience, and cultural background to improve understanding and
effectiveness in dealing with all communities.”
