City Council/Teambuilding Retreat Report <br />January 7, 2017 <br />Report prepared by Barbara Strandell 3 <br />#4 - Infrastructure: (Work group: Val Johnson, Brenda Davitt, Patty Isaacson) <br />Goal: Maintain and improve the infrastructure of the City of New Brighton, including streets, sewer, <br />lights, parks, etc. <br />Initiatives: <br />1. Plan and evaluate. Determine maintenance and replacement costs of existing <br />infrastructure <br />2. Continue to fund the CIP and Operations budget <br />3. For improvements identified by Council as priorities, Council must provide funding <br />sources for now and into the future - both CIP and Operations budget <br /> <br />#5 - Community Engagement/Services: (Work group: Mary Burg, Sandy Breuer, Jason Hicks) <br />Goal: Continuing going out to Community <br />• Vermont-type events <br />• Attendance at events: <br />• National Night Out <br />• Community events <br />• P.S. Open House <br />• Attend diverse community events (Hindo India) <br />• Ice cream social <br />• Community bonfire <br />• Community Calendar events around community <br />• Web page <br />• Town Hall/Community Open House <br />• Translate documents in different languages - web <br />• Hiring - diverse staff <br />• Branding <br />• Sense of place <br />• Council to reach out to changing populations and current constituents (quantifiable) <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />PRIORITIES 2017 – 2019 (ranked) <br /> <br />The following priorities were ranked by the City Council. Therese priorities were generated as result of the <br />pre-retreat survey to all participants. The expectation is that these are the areas that the staff will be <br />working on in the next 1- 3 years. <br /> <br />A. City development: Vision beyond the exchange <br />B. Additional public focus on energy efficient and cost savings via Green Step City designation. <br />C. Community engagement <br />D. Continue to plan for infrastructure replacement. <br />E. Complete comprehensive plan <br />F. Water improvement <br />G. Buy the Korean Church and Tri-City Legion to spur redevelopment <br />H. Working with the development partners to build out New Brighton Exchange <br />I. Monument/park signage to enhance sense of place <br />A-I were ranked high by at least 3 City Councilmembers; J-V were ranked by 1 or 2 Councilmembers
