It would be <br />different if the tennis court were not used and abandoned then it could be <br />repurposed for something else. He compared it to when snowboarding <br />came in. The skiers used to be the mainstay and now snowboarders come <br />in. If the snowboarders came in and took over the ski hills, they are <br />depriving the one group of skiers and advance the cause of the <br />snowboarders. You need to have them use the hills jointly or create a new <br />place for the snowboarders. That is the thought that should probably be <br />foremost on your minds. <br /> <br />Chair Fields commented that the Commission is trying to take all of this into <br />consideration and that is why the letter went out to residents. <br /> <br />VI. New Business <br />A. New Brighton Lions Park Playground <br />Acting Director Jason Hicks stated there was a presentation to be given by <br />Parks Superintendent Chris Wolla. History of the park was given. After <br />Council approval, a task force was chosen and took on the task of picking a <br />playground for the park. The desired features included: accessibility for all, a <br />poured in place surface, a Mega-Tower and Gravity Rail. The Task Force and <br />staff recommend PREC recommend the preferred design to City Council. <br /> <br />MOTION BY COMMISSIONER MCEATHRON, SECONDED BY <br />COMMISSIONER STENGLEIN, TO RECOMMEND THE PREFERRED <br />DESIGN TO COUNCIL. Discussion on date for July meeting <br />Commissioner Justin noted he will not be able attend the orientation meeting <br />scheduled for June 22nd. <br />MOTION BY COMMISSIONER AXBERG, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />MCEATHRON, TO MOVE THE JULY 5 MEETING TO JUNE 22, 2017. <br />MOTION CARRIED. JUSTIN ABSTAINED. <br /> <br />Commissioner Axberg asked for the future we may need to decide when we <br />should be contacting residents to inform them of issues in the parks. <br /> <br />VII. Announcements <br />A. Council Report – Council Member Burg <br /> Thanked Commission for this evening meeting with the residents. <br /> City agreed to the water processing plant. It is an 11 million dollar project. <br />This project is being paid from by the Army. <br /> Working through the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> Public Safety Depart has a blood drive coming up. <br /> Planning for National Night out on August 1st <br /> Council discussed the new playground last night at a work session It will <br />be on Council agenda next week.
